Week 5 Update – Challenge Yourself!

Hey everyone! Another weekend is coming to a close for me and it’s been a fly-by weekend of sorts. House sitting through Sunday and a wedding to photograph on Sunday as well. I didn’t get around to doing my vlog until today but better late than never, right? I managed to get a ton of stuff done today including cooking my lunches for the week. I think I am going to start cooking two different meals to put together and try to do lunches and dinners. I find myself eating a boca burger and chips almost every day because it’s fast, easy and tastes good. So I need to find some new recipes to introduce into my meal prep so I have double the meals for the week. Anywho, onto the video:

I lost 0.4lbs this week, I’ll take it. I ate a boca burger with mustard and pickles, a can of green beans and a serving of lean cuisine pretzels the night before weigh in… holy sodium Batman! I also attribute the smaller loss to stress.. Stress about my cat being sick, stress about juggling my house sitting and the wedding, stress about shooting the wedding. It’s amazing I have hair left honestly. Here’s hoping this week is the nice and relaxing down time I need it to be before I start my month solid house sitting bookings. Hellooo summer busy time. Oi vey!

Week 4 Update – Be Realistic!

Yet another vlog update, and talking about having realistic expectations about how you eat when on a weight loss journey. We cannot be perfect 100% of the time, and sometimes it’s better to be “imperfect”! Check it out:

I decided to start posting my weigh in results in my actual blog posts too in case no one wants to watch the vlog! So I had an amazing week this week. Was home from Tuesday night through Thursday morning and then it was back at it with a new housesitting gig for the weekend! I woke up this morning and drove home to weigh in… and smashed it! I lost 2.6 lbs this week for a total of 13 pounds for the month. I also blasted through my 5% goal! Next goal is losing 15 pounds, hopefully will hit that next week if I play my cards right.

As per usual lots of stuff going on this weekend, cats sitting on my lap, big dogs giving kisses and pulling me all over the yard – pretty typical stuff for me. Can’t wait to get home tomorrow and clean out my fridge to get ready for my grocery trip Monday. Planning on doing my shopping in the morning and then meal prep in the afternoon/evening. Getting a little bit tired of chicken and quinoa so I think I am gonna mix it up this week and try out some new recipes for lunch meals. Found an awesome sounding recipe for buffalo chicken alfredo here that I am dying to try. Would make a good lunch with some broccoli thrown in and it looks like the serving sizes are pretty decent too! The thing I am most excited about though is that I am going elliptical shopping this weekend! The plus side of all this housesitting and pet sitting is that I made enough to finally get an elliptical! Woot woot! Planning on going to Sears on Monday (still weekend for me, mwahahahaaa) and looking around to see what I can find in my price range. The only thing I am worried about is putting the monster together, but hopefully I’ll manage – I mean hey, that’s why cuss words were invented. Amiright?

I didn’t get a chance to shoot the video for the awesome snack I keep teasing this week with all the craziness but I swear I will shoot it this weekend at some point. So there’s that to look forward to as well. I will keep you posted with elliptical shopping, hopefully I get lucky!

Week 3 Update – Motivation

Wow, what a crazy weekend! The fact that I managed to get a vlog shot this weekend is hard to believe! Especially since I think I reshot it about 470 times, but I digress. Check it out right here:

I am proud of everything I got accomplished over the past 3 days. I have been housesitting since Friday afternoon, my mom and I went shopping for goodies and groceries Saturday, then shopping again Sunday for the couple grocery things we both inevitably forgot from the previous day. I got all my meal prepping done yesterday as well for my lunches throughout the week.

Today was the craziest day of all though – no down time for me at all! I got up and took one of the dogs I am watching into the clinic to be seen (he was just itchy – nothing major!), then I ran him home, drove all the way back to my house, ran to the bank, stopped in at my sisters resale shop to buy scrubs for the clinic employees (3 bags worth), then I went BACK home for a few minutes to catch up with my mom and pick up some stuff I needed. But the day didn’t end there.. oh no. Stopped back at the store because I bought the wrong kind of makeup yesterday – doh!  I left there and made a trip to AltSmoke, the electronic cigarette store. Thank god they opened one up about 20 minutes from my house so I at least don’t have to drive an hour to the one down south finally! I get stocked up on e-cig goodies and head back to my client’s house to check on the boys and give them a potty break. Get my vlog shot amazingly in time to leave for an evening pet sitting consult. So I get done there and have to go allll the way back home to check on Maddie and the kitties and make sure they are all good until I get home tomorrow night. Then finally back to my client’s house to collapse and start editing my video and getting ready for my 12 hour day tomorrow.

Sigh. I thought weekends were for rest and relaxation!

Honestly though I can’t complain because I feel super accomplished going into the week. Not really a feeling I am used to having on Sunday or Monday evenings. I am the queen of procrastination and disorganization, haha. Feeling like I am ready to tackle the week is sorta novel for me. Who knows? Maybe my week will be super restful and relaxing… HAHA.. yeah right – dream on Tiff.

The one thing I didn’t get around to today was shooting the video for the snack I keep talking about, but that wasn’t for lack of trying. My camera battery died and I was NOT about to drive home for the 7th time today! So I will be shooting that one later this week at home. Anywho, hope everyone out there in blogland has a great week!

Stuff… and things.

Sooo, I am super excite for this upcoming week. I have 2 videos to shoot tomorrow that I will upload throughout the week. My update vlog will be uploaded tomorrow (fingers crossed) and I have a super yummy snack idea video that I will be posting a few days later. So keep your eyes peeled!

I wanted to take a minute though and talk about overcoming obstacles. Sometimes we face true obstacles, and other times we create them to make excuses. Let me explain the difference. My stress fracture from running was a true obstacle – one that proved too great for me and eventually derailed my weight loss efforts. An example of an obstacle that is more in my head would be housesitting.

If you’ve watched my videos you will know that I am a pet sitter. My pet sitting company also offers housesitting, or as I like to call them – “overnight stays”. So picture staying at a house that isn’t your own for anywhere from 3-10 days or more, and not only being surrounded by food that might tempt you, but also having the added inconvenience of having to lug all your crap (healthy food, clothes, camera, makeup, etc) to this house. Now imagine doing that very thing just about every weekend.

Don’t get me wrong. I love pet sitting and house sitting, it makes me sooo happy guys – for real.

But the bummer is that I might be staying at a house filled with junk food, or with *gasp* no wifi! It definitely can put a damper on trying to live a healthy lifestyle, but I choose to avoid using it as an excuse to slip up.

I am actually housesitting at this very moment (thank god for wifi – woot!) and I realized yesterday that I would have to do my meal prep here. Thankfully I realized this in the middle of the grocery store so I could get all my stuff, lol. Part of me seriously didn’t want to deal with the hassle of not only lugging bags full of groceries to a house that I would have to lug them home from 2 days later, but also I would have to grab all my staples I’d need from home so that I could cook. Bleh. Not fun!

I conceded after all and tried to see the bright side. The bright side being I could cook my meals for the week in a wicked awesome kitchen and actually have room to work for once! I decided that as much of a pain in the ass as it would be, it would be a bigger pain in my derriere if I didn’t have lunches for the week. I got busy and tonight I cooked super healthy and delicious meals, and they turned out to be the tastiest ones I have put together yet!

There is roasted balsamic chicken, quinoa, roasted broccoli, onions and red peppers, and cauliflower mashed fauxtatoes packed into this container. That’s a HUGE lunch!

I also have to shoot my videos here for the upcoming week, but it really wasn’t that big of a deal to grab my camera bag and my tripod. In fact I think it might be easier to shoot here than at home – well except for the fact that I will probably have a dog crawling all over me the entire time… at least it will make for an entertaining vlog. 😉

The point I am trying to make is don’t give in to the temptation of being lazy when an obstacle presents itself. If it is a true obstacle don’t beat yourself up over it, but if something comes up that might make your diet or lifestyle a little more challenging don’t give up! Trust me, you’ll be even more proud of yourself when you push through and do well in spite of what life throws at you!

Week 2 Update – PUNCAKES!

Week two down, only 329478239873 more weeks to goal! Just kidding, mostly. 😉 I did a vlog today to talk about a ton of stuff including my weigh in, meal prepping, weight loss aids, and some cool grocery finds! Check it out:

In other news, PUNCAKES.

Ok, but for real I found the yummiest pancake recipe and I am so excited to share it. If you recall in my previous pancake adventures I tried making oatmeal protein pancakes. They tasted great, but they came out very spongy and chewy, not so light and fluffy. And let’s not fool ourselves, unless pancakes are light and fluffy – who wants em? Not I. The super secret weapon for fluffy pancakes using oats is a blender, and a tiny bit of baking powder.

So I came across this recipe with only 3 ingredients and I changed it up a bit, I added a couple more ingredients and changed some of the ingredients around. So my new and improved recipe is:

Banana Oat Puncakes

1 Banana

1 Whole Egg

1 Egg White

1/4 tsp Baking Powder

1/3 cup Old Fashioned Oats

1/2 tsp Cinnamon

Protein Powder, PB2, Peanut or Almond Butter… Protein Puncakes!

Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor. (I used my Ninja, worked like a charm!) Blend until a smooth pancake batter is formed. If you want to add some fruit like frozen blueberries or chocolate chips strawberries, now would be the time to stir those in.

Heat a griddle or frying pan sprayed with your choice of Pam Spray or other oil spray (I use coconut, mmmm). Keep your heat low to medium. Protip: You can’t cook puncakes on high heat!

Pour your batter into your warmed up pan, and flip your puncakes when they start to form bubbles on the top. Cook the other side 3-5 minutes.

I added some Smart Balance margarine and about 1/8th cup of Mrs. Butterworths Light Syrup.

Pancake Heaven.

This recipe really is enough for 2 people, but I am a glutton and I ate the whole batch myself.

The Points Plus for this based on the WW recipe builder is 5 PP, keeping in mind I omitted the banana in the recipe builder because I think if fruit is 0 points, it should be 0 points all the time. If you’d rather count the NI of the banana it bumps it up to 6 points. I have always done this and still managed to continue losing, your mileage may vary.

Try it out and let me know what you think!

Until next time…

“Oh, go ahead and make this a great day!”

So yeah, I’m back. I was off plan over winter and I gained back all of the weight I had lost, bummer. Shit happens though, I’m over it. Back in the saddle as they say. I did a week one update vlog already which you can watch right hurr:

So basically I am doing something I’ve never done before which is meal prepping. I have sort of half-assed it in the past, but never have I actually put lunches together and stacked them up in the fridge.

Oh. My. God.

Why have I never done this before?? It makes packing lunch sooo easy. I hate, hate, HATE packing lunch for work.

My mom has tried to help me over the years with cute new lunch bags and sticking awesome little notes in said lunch bag to keep me motivated but I eventually ended up at Subway – or McDonald’s. My biggest obstacle was not having the time in the morning to dish out individual servings into containers and pack it all up. I always ended up taking an entire container of cottage cheese to work or something, then leaving it there and forgetting it.. only to remember it a week after it went bad. So it was a bad deal all around.

Now what I have been doing differently is packing up protein, veg and starch in a container together. Then even if I wake up late, I can still throw that in my super cute lunch bag and toss in a banana and a couple snack-y things, grab my water bottle and I have a great lunch and good, healthy food to get me through my work day.

Super. Awesome.

I packed chicken with quinoa and roasted broccoli and asparagus this week. It’s so good, I look forward to it every day. Best part? The lunch I made and packed is bigger, more filling and keeps me full a lot longer than a lean cuisine, and it’s all clean. If you watched my vlog you will know that when I decided to go back on a health and weight loss kick that I started with clean eating. I switched to Weight Watchers but I am trying to stick to eating as clean as possible. I am cooking all my meals, which I am still able to do even working full time and while petsitting. If I can do it so can you!

I am looking forward to filming my next update vlog this weekend, I will go over and show you guys exactly what I do for my “no nonsense” meal prepping, and I will talk about how to prep your meals for the week without going crazy! See you then.
